Basic Dice

A standard dice has:

6 Faces
12 Edges
8 Vertices (Corners)

Standard Opposite Faces

For a normal dice:

1 ↔ 6
2 ↔ 5
3 ↔ 4

Sum:

1 + 6 = 7
2 + 5 = 7
3 + 4 = 7

Useful shortcut when explicitly stated as a standard die.


Important Dice Rules

Rule 1

Opposite faces never touch.

Example:

Top = 1
Bottom = 6

Then:

1 and 6 can never be adjacent.

Rule 2

Adjacent faces share an edge.

Example:

1 and 2

shown together repeatedly.

Likely adjacent.


Rule 3

If two faces appear together in multiple views,

they are usually adjacent.


Dice Rotation

If the top remains the same:

Only side faces rotate.

Example:

Top = 1

Possible side rotation:

2 → 3 → 4 → 5

Dice Shortcut

Questions usually ask:

Which face is opposite?

Which face is adjacent?

Which face appears on top after rotation?

Most questions are solved using:

Painted Cube Concept

A large cube is painted from the outside and then cut into smaller cubes.

Questions ask:

How many cubes have 3 faces painted?

How many cubes have 2 faces painted?

How many cubes have 1 face painted?

How many cubes have no face painted?

Cube Terminology

Suppose the cube is divided into:

Corner Cubes

Always:

8

Reason:

A cube has 8 corners.

Edge Cubes

Formula:
