“The Currency of Academia”
If you want a Masters/PhD admit, a Research Paper is the strongest weapon you can have. It proves you can think, not just code.
The Scam Warning (Read First!)
Many “International Journals” are scams. They ask you to pay $50 and publish your paper in 2 days.
- Examples: IJCRT, JETIR (Avoid these!).
- Why avoid? Professors know these are fake. It will hurt your application more than help.
Target: IEEE or ACM Conferences / Journals. Or Springer / Elsevier.
- Rule: If they ask you for money to review the paper, it’s likely a scam.
How to Write a Paper (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: The Idea (Novelty)
You don’t need to invent a new AI. You just need a small improvement.
- Bad: “Face Recognition System”. (Done 1 million times).
- Good: “Face Recognition System for Low-Light Villages in India using Thermal Cameras”. (Specific context).
Step 2: The Mentor
You cannot do this alone.
- Find a professor in your college who has a Google Scholar profile.
- Ask to work under them.
Step 3: The Structure (IMRAD)
- Introduction: What is the problem?
- Methodology: What is your algorithm/architecture? (Draw diagrams!).
- Results: Graphs proving your method is 2% better than existing ones.
- Discussion: Why did it work?
Step 4: Submission
- Find a conference (e.g., “IEEE Region 10 Conference”).
- Submit PDF.
- Wait 2-3 months for “Peer Review”.
The “Mitacs” Internship (Canada)
- Globalink Research Internship: Use this program to engage in research in Canada during your 3rd year summer.
- Benefit: Fully funded. If the prof likes you, they will fund your Masters.
